Facebook is reportedly planning to test out a feature that would allow users to make in-app purchases using their Facebook login.
This would allow anyone who provided Facebook with their credit card information to make purchases on partnering e-commerce mobile apps without entering billing information. Facebook has confirmed that this is in development. Flash deal site JackThreads, who already has a stronger relationship with Facebook, will be the pilot partner for this program.
Why I’m Curious:
It will be interesting to see how much people actually trust Facebook with their credit card information. Facebook hasn’t always been heralded as the king of privacy, so people may not be willing to fork over their credit card number so easily. One important factor of this feature is the potential amount of data this will give Facebook about the spending habit of their users. Not only will they see what you “like,” but they may have more insight into what you’re actually purchasing.
