The founder of Photobucket recently launched a new app that allows you to share photos with your family and friends. Rather than making photos available on Instagram, Flickr, or any number of social networks according to privacy settings, Welch’s new venture, Lasso, lets friends ask for photos from each others’ camera rolls.
Why I’m Curious:
The “private social network” space has been expanding rapidly in the past quarter. With apps like Snapchat, Path, EveryMe, Couple and Nextdoor paving the way, it seems like private is the new social. Users tend to share more freely in private networks since they don’t have to worry about their online reputation. Private social networks tend to cater to maintaining users’ close relationships and allow them to share more with a specific group of people.
