The rate at which information spreads/expands on Twitter is mind blowing. Because of this, it makes it difficult at times to see where a tweet goes and how it impacts followers, their followers, and their follower’s followers.
The site “Where Does My Tweet Go,” visualizes the path of how a tweet spreads and how it’s influenced by various levels of followers (i.e. follower, follower’s followers etc). Through its visualization platform, users have the ability to see the number of retweets from an original post, the tweet’s reach, information about individual retweets (i.e. about the user, their followers, the actual tweet they retweeted etc). Additionally, if the user chooses, they can also look at the visualizations of tweets that are trending based on categories, OR they can customize their filter for tweets they would like to see in the trending space.
Why I am Curious:
While more people begin to follow more brands/people on twitter, it becomes important to understand the nature of successful tweet and how/if they are reaching target audiences. It’s also important to understand the power of a tweet reaching additional audiences based on a brand’s own influencers. I am curious to see if a more detailed model (i.e. search for specific tweets) will be made available for brands and if this will help to tell a better story about tweeting impact.
