Recently a programmer and GitHub member Thearn, revealed an application that can detect a pulse through a users webcam. The application, Webcam Pulse Detector, is an open and free program that can be downloaded on GitHub.
The program was inspired by the latest on Eulerian Video Magnification, which is a method to detect movement. Thearn created the webcam pulse detector using Python and openCV to focus on the user’s forehead. The program collects data from this area to estimate the heartbeat frequency of the user.
Why I’m curious
Could this be used for advertising?
Maybe in the future, we can use this technology to measure the consumers heart rate as it changes while they shop; determining passion points and barriers in real time. Then we could use the data to optimize campaign messaging and retargeting techniques.
