Movie fans can vote using Instagram photos and hashtags — for the first time ever — in the MTV Movie Awards’ Best Hero category leading up to and during the April 14 ceremony.
MTV launched the Best Hero category last year, but the live social voting only accounted for votes coming from Twitter. This year, people can vote on both Instagram and Twitter.
Vying for the Best Hero title are Bilbo Baggins from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (#VoteBilbo), Snow White from Snow White and the Huntsman (#VoteSnowWhite), Iron Man (#VoteIronMan), Batman (#VoteBatman), Catwoman (#VoteCatwoman) and Hulk (#VoteHulk).
MTV was the first brand to reach 1 million followers on Instagram in November. The @MTV Instagram account now has 1.2 million followers so leveraging the platform is a smart move.
MTV will also employ a “Insta-razzi” photographer in the photo pit during the Movie Awards’ red carpet festivities to post snaps on MTV’s Instagram account.
Why I’m Curious:
Will instagram take over the spot as preferred second stream social channel? (especially as young millennials are leaving traditional social platforms)
