Indie games get a boost.

Game Closure, a gaming start-up in Silicon Valley, has open sourced their DevKit for Mobile HTML5 games. Check out the video for all the geek-tastic details.

Why I’m curious

The Indie game market has been exploding for the past few years but the technologies to produce the games have either been proprietary or wrapped in costly engine licenses. Giving developers a tested, high quality platform to create mobile games will hopefully spur new creative gaming categories.

With economic barriers removed could the next Angry Birds come from an individual or could new cottage industries rise around tiny / niche gaming communities?
