Never Get Lost at Macy’s

Macy’s is the first major retailer to leverage indoor GPS technology in its mobile app. Just in time for the holiday season, the feature will give shoppers turn-by-turn directions for their flagship store, search or tap on the map to discover various departments, brands and points of interest.

Why I’m Curious: Not only does this provide a real utility for shoppers in the country’s biggest department store, but it also gives the retailer the ability to direct them to specific areas, brands or offers. While we’ve seen indoor mapping technology at use in airports, museums or hotels, this retail first is yet another example of the changing shopping experience empowered by mobile.
