Muse: The brainwave-sensing headband

InteraXon’s new technology just blew my mind and is about to change the way the world thinks. Introducing Muse, the brainwave-sensing headband. It’s a comfortable, sleek, four-sensor headband that allows you to control applications, games, reduce stress, improve memory and concentration, and eventually control devices directly with your mind.

Muse measures your brainwaves in real-time. It sends those brainwaves to your smart phone or tablet showing you how well your brain is performing and also translates your brainwaves into instructions to interact with content on your iOS or Android device.

InteraXon began its Indiegogo campaign on Monday in order to raise funds and awareness for its newest product that lets you track and optimize your cognitive activity. The Muse headband has been in development for 4 years  for years, and is now ready to bring the device to market.

InteraXon’s Muse headband connects wirelessly to devices via Bluetooth technology and functions kind of like a heart rate monitor for your brain. With frequent use, Muse can determine patterns in your brain activity, giving users the ability to optimize neural abilities.

Initial price point for the Muse is $120 (plus $15 for shipping and handling) for the early bird special. However, for a pledge of $8,500, the InteraXon team will show up to your door with a thought-controlled beer tap. That’s right, beer that you can pour with a thought. I bet that just blew your mind.

Why I’m Curious? The concept of brainwave-sensing thought control is difficult for me to wrap my mind around. What a remarkable breakthrough a device like this serves as for the technological world at large. Muse may have dramatic implications on the ways in which brands construct their products and create marketing strategies around them. When such a device allows us to tap into our brain activity and optimize it accordingly, I can only wonder how this will radically transform society.
